Ivo Slavotínek, director of the National Library CR Librarianship PhDr. Vít Richter, director of the Olomouc Library and IFLA Member for SKIP CR RNDr. Lenka Prucková, director of the Vincenc Priessnitz Library in Jeseník and the representative of the town of Jeseník Jiří Juráš, regional methodist in the Moravian-Silesian Research Library and Commissioner of the Library of the Year for SKIP CR PhDr. Marie Šedá and the director of the Research Library in Olomouc RNDr. Jitka Holásková.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues,
on Wednesday, May 16th 2018, a round-table discussion was held at the Library - a Public Issue in the Olomouc Region. The event took place in the Museum of National History in Olomouc in a very pleasant atmosphere, attended by both the professional public of our region and representatives of municipalities and mayors. Deputy governor of the Olomouc Region Mgr. František Jura, deputy mayor of Olomouc PhDr. Pavel Urbášek, director of the Library Institute PhDr. Vít Richter, chairman of the Association for Rural Renewal of the Olomouc Region and mayor of Tučín Jiří Řezníček, director of the Olomouc Library and a member of IFLA RNDr. Lenka Prucková, regional methodist of the Moravian-Silesian Region and commissioner of the Library of the Year PhDr. Marie Šedá, director of Municipal Cultural Facilities in Jeseník and Representative of Jeseník Jiří Juráš and director of the Research Library in Olomouc RNDr. Jitka Holásková. The input presentation was performed by dr. Richter and the moderation of the whole event was perfectly done by director of the Municipal Library in Prostějov MgA. Aleš Procházka. The subject of the discussion was not only general questions about the direction of libraries in our region, but also questions tailored to our region. In connection with the financing, the newly approved grant program of the Olomouc Region was officially introduced to support investment projects in the field of culture, where founders can apply for support for smaller reconstructions, minor repairs and library equipment. The upcoming discussion has shown that libraries are an important element of municipalities, their activities and, above all, modernization need to be supported. It was also said, however, that panelists feel great deficiencies in promoting libraries themselves, which should be better captured in the future and a methodological assistance should be directed in this direction too.
A video recording was made from the whole discussion, which we will provide for the following days. We thank not only the panelists for their support, but also the whole auditorium composed of librarians and representatives of municipalities and towns who actively participated in the discussion and helped us to name the common needs of the founders and libraries for the coming years. Thanks also to the National History Museum in Olomouc, which kindly lent us space and to all the organisers.
