In the Zlín Region, the round table was attended by these main speakers: Mgr. Miroslav Kašný, member of the Zlin Region Council for Culture, Conservation, Churches, Youth and Sport, MUDr. Miroslav Adámek, mayor of Zlín, Prof. PhDr. Vít Richter, director of the National Library Library Institute, Prof. PhDr. Zdeňka Friedlová, director of the Regional Library of František Bartoš in Zlín, Ing. Vojtěch Ryza, mayor of Lidečko and chairman of the Association for Rural Renewal of the Zlín Region and Mgr. Radovan Jančář, director of the Bedřich Beneš Buchlovan Library Uherské Hradiště.
The introductory presentation was performed by dr. Richter and the show hosted by Mgr. Pavel Nášel, head of the Municipal Library of Fryšták. Other participants in the program, including writer Antonín Bajaja, MgA. Petr Michálek, director of the Municipal Theater Zlín, Mgr. David Valůšek, director of the State District Archive Zlín and others participated intensively in the discussion.
But what is the future of libraries in the digital era? Are libraries an unnecessary burden or value worth continuing to support and develop? How should libraries change in response to societal demand and their users' current needs? Or should they not? These were the main topics of the panel discussion. The councillor of the Zlín Region, Miroslav Kašný, emphasized "the irreplaceable and persistent role of libraries as cultural and social centers, guarantors of culture, quality and education". Mayor Miroslav Adámek and Vojtěch Ryza agreed that mayors want to hear from the libraries and would like to get to know examples of well-functioning libraries that provide their users with a pleasant environment for meetings, leisure and community activities.
"We are currently at a crossroads where, on the one hand, there is an outflow of users from classic library services to freely available electronic information resources and, on the other hand, the number of visitors to educational and cultural events organized by libraries. Libraries must respond to these facts. We must be able to keep up with the development of the information society, adapt to new ways of communication and above all to offer our users added value in the form of premium services and lifelong learning, " said PhDr. Zdeňka Friedlová, director of the Regional Library of František Bartoš in Zlín.
